BIM Implementation Specialist for Architecture Firm

This position is based in our downtown San Francisco office and reports to the SmithGroup California IT Manager.

SmithGroup is in the process of transitioning CAD practices to Building Information Modeling (BIM). The BIM Implementation Specialist will assist California office pilot project teams in efforts to accomplish this transition gracefully. In addition, the BIM implementation specialist will provide SmithGroup California staff with a measure of support in their use of our legacy CAD program, AutoCAD.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain CAD / BIM Help Desk for California offices; Serve as a resource to project teams using Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Assist project teams in BIM project setup.
  • Conduct internal Revit training sessions.
  • Facilitate adoption and further development of SmithGroup’s BIM Guidelines and procedures as well as our CAD Guidelines and Procedures.
  • Stay informed on best practices for use of Revit.
  • Coach project team members toward optimal use of Revit. This effort would include giving occasional presentations on best practices and orienting staff to SmithGroup’s BIM Guidelines and Procedures (BGP) documentation.
  • Provide constructive feedback on SG BGP documentation.
  • Create Revit families in response to project need.
  • Assist in maintenance of Revit application shared resources.
  • Troubleshoot problems.
  • Participate in SmithGroup’s BIM Implementer Group.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments with respect to BIM.
  • Provide measure of basic training in use of Revit for staff.
  • Provide technical orientation to New Hires regarding BIM and CAD tools.

    Exclusions
    The BIM Implementation Specialist will not be responsible for:
  • Purchasing and installation of software.
  • Workstation support or maintenance.
  • Network maintenance or archives.

    Requirements
  • Previous project experience with Autodesk Revit
  • Strong AutoCAD Skills
  • Strong communication and staff support skills
