Digital Asset Manager - Cannon Design - Chicago - IL

CannonDesign has an exceptional opportunity for a Digital Asset Manager. We prefer to have this position based in our Chicago office, but may consider other CannonDesign locations for exceptional candidates.

The successful candidate will perform in a firm-wide role to manage BIM-related content and assets of the highest quality for just-in-time distribution to project teams through a core collection of BIM component libraries. Primary responsibilities include:
  • Serve as the firm’s “go-to” professional for providing solutions to our designers Revit family needs through successful content management.
  • Develop and implement BIM-related content, templates and parameters as they relate to all stages of project delivery.
  • Collaborate with other experts throughout the firm to identify and vet exemplar BIM content that can be shared and utilized across the firm.
  • In collaboration with our Digital Practice and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team, participate in R&D to improve our designers’ and clients’ interaction with Revit and related technologies.
  • Create and deliver ongoing training for our design professionals to properly use the firm’s digital content library to increase the quality and consistency of our project deliverables while developing a consistent approach for model content creation and curation.
The following also apply:

  • Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • Though not required, a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science is a plus.
  • Architectural registration preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with expert knowledge of Revit family creation is required.
  • Familiarity with the overall BIM process and the knowledge management principles (taxonomy, content management, usability, process management, etc) is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must.
  • Ability to be successful in a highly collaborative environment, physically or remotely, is critical.
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Portfolio, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite and other BIM-enabled technologies preferred.

  • Solicits feedback from Project Managers and Architects concerning the effectiveness of the office masters and appropriateness of building materials, components, assemblies and systems being specified.
  • Maintains the Revit Development and Support Groups as resource centers of knowledge and expertise in materials and methods of construction using appropriate building materials, components, assemblies and systems.
  • Collaborates with the Technical Services Manager and Information Technology (IT) Team in researching, implementing, coordinating and integrating alternative applicable softwares / processes pursuant to data base building information model and drawing development, energy modeling and analyses and sustainability best practices for Firm use.

  • 10+ years of professional architectural practice experience.
  • 5+ years of project modelling and drawing experience.
  • Registered Architect preferred.
  • Experience with AIA Contract Documents, ARCOM’s MasterSpec and building information modeling (BIM), specifically Autodesk’s Revit Architecture, the AIA’s Architect’s Handbook of Professional Practice and CSI’s Project Delivery Practice Guide.
  • Experience with elements of OmniClass, MasterFormat and UniFormat as foundational classification systems for structuring construction data attached to a BIM.
  • Experience with various green building rating systems, particularly USGBC’s LEED certification and the US EPA’s ENERGY STAR program preferred.
  • Experience with InterSpec’s e-SPECS for Revit preferred.
  • Strong technical background with codes, regulations and standards and associations and societies, councils and institutes associated with the design professions and construction industry.
  • Strong technical background with varied experience in the overall practice of architecture, systems research and project management experience.

Revit Architect - Croatia

Vlado asked me to post the following opportunity.

Revit architect (Junior to mid) based in Croatia, Istria, Premantura near the town of PULA (Europe). You will be working on a mixture of Revit architectural projects; mostly glazing-bldg. envelope type.UK, EU projects but also competitions etc. if desired.

You'll provide training and support for EU+UK offices (mostly Vienna + Berlin) if small scale, in Croatia, for larger scale (Offices converting from CAD to Revit). There are also on-site possibilities at client's Offices.

Timeline might look like this:
  • 1-3 weeks in Pula/Croatia (project work or competitions...and small scale on-line support for EU Clients
  • 1 week on the road (Austria, Germany, UK ?) converting CAD Offices andClients. support, tutoring on location
The position is mainly suited for a younger-dynamic, Revit experienced person who would like to make a change from a large city to rural-coastal Croatia, with occasional EU travelling. They will support flexible working times.

Accommodation in Pula is free (30m2 appartment) and of course when on the road travelling costs will be covered.

In the summer, the idea is to get offices still on CAD but converting to Revit to do this during their holidays, actively with various activities (one is sea-kayaking tours), so this could be also a scope of work IF desired, an extra task, beside the standard Revit project this is on the coast.

Another possibility: You could be based on 3-4 Ha farm; ideal for a green thumb or someone going green; someone who wants to grow their own food. It is an idea, not a must.

Upcoming tasks in August/September:
  • Converting a grade A, 150+ architects Office from CAD-2D to Revit, Berlin, Germany, EU
  • Revit window families: not complex, but quite many / industrial style, planar / London site
