Senior Electrical Engineer - Atkins - Orlando FL

Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Orlando, FL staff as a Senior Electrical Engineer. The major function for this position will be to provide design, production and coordination of construction plans and drawings in support of engineering or architectural project(s). The successful candidate will select and recommend design procedures and also check and review the design work of less experienced junior professionals and designers.

Typical duties and responsibilities
  • Under direction, provides the expertise of a seasoned Electrical Engineer to all conventional aspects of Architectural Engineering for facilities ranging from simple/small to large/complex while applying advanced concepts and techniques to unconventional engineering problems.
  • Will function as a lead engineer on small projects or part of a larger design team for complex renovations or new building design projects.
  • Duties are in relation to electrical engineering for building systems including primary/secondary power distribution, lighting, and low voltage systems design.
  • Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct.
  • Responsibilities include performing Electrical load calculations, sizing and specifying equipment, power distribution architecture, lighting design and low-voltage systems engineering for buildings.
  • Designs and develops plans and drawings, which may include the development of preliminary layout and/or final drawings.
  • Organizes and conducts engineering investigations and planning work which have a well-defined scope.
  • Outlines and prepares relatively straightforward reports of sections of more complex reports, working under the periodic review of a more experienced professional.
  • Provides engineering services during construction activities by reviewing shop drawings for conformance with specifications; prepares records and progress reports defining construction progress; observes construction procedures, and evaluates the results from quality control testing.
  • Researches feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and regulatory agency specifications.
  • Contributes to the development of specifications and permit applications, and writes miscellaneous reports.
  • Prepares preliminary man-hour, cost and material quantity estimates.
  • Participates in quality control checks, maintaining quality standards in all work produced, checking computations, and/or reviewing designs and drawings performed by others.
  • Coordinates with other disciplines as required.
  • Performs field observations of construction where appropriate.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering plus 10 years' experience, or Associate's degree plus a minimum of 15 years' progressive drafting and design experience, including at least twelve as a Designer, or HS diploma (or equivalent) plus a minimum of twenty five years progressive drafting and design experience, including at least fifteen as a Designer.
  • Excellent verbal/writing skills and interpersonal skills to interface with owners, architects, other technical professionals and builders are required.
  • Specific electrical engineering design experience for large commercial facilities such as federal and local Government facilities, aviation, leisure/hospitality and higher education is preferred.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills are required.
  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCad and electrical load software (EasyPower, etap, SKM, AGI-32, etc) strongly desired; good technical writing and communication skills.
The following project experience would be a plus for this position
  • Electrical Design for Water, Waste/Water Treatment Plants. Experience in Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) and SCADA systems, a major plus.
  • Solar Photovoltaic Cell Arrays. DC systems design experience, a major plus.
  • Electrical Power Studies: Short Circuit, Coordination and Arc-Flash
  • Power Quality Studies – Harmonic mitigation
  • Emergency/Standby Generators
  • Uninterruptable Power Systems (UPS)
P.E. and RCDD certification is preferred but not required. LEED Accredited also preferred.

Structural CAD Drafter - Todd and Sargent - Ames - IA

Position Summary
The Structural CAD Drafter will create and maintain master drawing files to support Todd & Sargent’s construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare full and accurate structural drawings.
  • Provide Bill of Materials to the Engineering Data Coordinator(s).
  • Coordinate and monitor the construction plan review process to ensure accurate drawings. Make modifications and changes as required.
  • Maintain and update drawings and files as required throughout the life-cycle of the construction project.
  • Inspect at least two ‘slips’ per year. Duties would include verifying placement of reinforcements and inserts, answering questions on drawings, and writing reports after the slip is finished. (Task requires outside work with exposure to all weather elements and ability to climb, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50lbs.)
  • Work individually, and as part of a team, with the Vice President - Engineering, Structural Engineer(s), and Drafting Leaders to complete work tasks.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Computer Aided Design (CAD) or closely related program with a structural emphasis, and/or an equivalent combination of education and field related experience is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of Autodesk/AutoCAD, especially in the area of structural drawing.
  • Knowledge/proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook and Adobe.

The Structural Group BIM Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, execution, and maintenance of the Structural Technical Group’s Building Information Modeling (BIM) initiative and the use of Autodesk Revit Structural. This individual will be measured on the quality and accuracy of the results that the staff trained on this software produces.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Work closely with the company BIM Manager to support the development and implementation of company standards & practices for BIM applications, including Revit within the Building Systems Structural Technical Group
  • Assist with the implementation of Autodesk Revit Structural software, including transitioning and training Structural Technical Group staff
  • Mentor Structural Technical Group staff on best practices and standard operating procedures
  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to enhance daily processes, efficient workflow, and better production output
  • Provide on-going Revit Structural support for the Structural Technical Group’s projects
  • Participate in internal office and regional Autodesk Revit Structural forums
  • Interact with clients to coordinate project standards and deliverables
  • Maintain and enforce BIM documentation, modeling QA/QC and workflow process standards within the Structural Technical Group
  • Troubleshoot BIM related issues, as required
  • Work with project teams with regard to BIM best practices
  • Assist Structural Technical Group staff with development of BIM content to meet deadlines (resource to staff using)
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
  • AAS in Engineering or related degree is required.
  • 6 - 10 years of Structural design experience required.
  • 3 years of relevant hands on experience working with BIM related software, preferably Autodesk Revit Structural.
  • Proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit Structural software platforms.
  • Experience in a consulting A/E or E/A firm is strongly desired.
  • Must demonstrate proven ability to organize and produce documents and models.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and with senior level staff.
